In general, the sequence for configuring the vendor-provided drivers for a printer. How do I get my CanonMP250 to work having just installed Catalina ? From some of the printer vendors, the departmental-grade printers tend to last longer and be supported longer, though are more costly to purchase. AirPrint and IPP/IPPS support can mean simpler or no add-on drivers.
I tend to use departmental-grade Brother MFW-series printers, and particularly models that support AirPrint and IPP/IPPS, and often also with telnet, and lpr/ldp, and raw-port 9100 printing. That printer support topped out at OS X 10.9 and Windows 8.1, per the published specs. The profusion of Canon and maybe-Canon-maybe-not web sites is confusing, too. Low-end and inexperience printers tend to fall off support the quickest, and Canon has seemingly not been good about keeping drivers and sales status information current. Given the 2018 release date, I’d hope it was 64-bit. There is a “MG2900 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver.16.20.0.0 (Mac)” driver available, but I don’t know if that’s 32- or 64-bit. Apple provided developers several years’ notice on the 64-bit transition, and has been showing 32-bit warnings to customers with High Sierra and later.
